Morgan Meighen & Associates Limited (“MMA”) is committed to keeping your Personal Information accurate, confidential and secure, at a minimum in accordance with governing legislation. This Privacy Statement provides an overview of how we collect, use, disclose and safeguard Personal Information you provide when you open an account with us, visit our website, send email correspondence or when such information is relayed by a third party.

“Personal Information” is defined within the Federal Government’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (“PIPEDA”), but in summary, this encompasses any personally identifiable information about an individual, such as age, marital status, social insurance number, home address, financial information, email address, etc. and is protected by federal legislation under PIPEDA.

In the course of managing and/or administering investment funds and segregated client accounts, MMA will collect, use and disclose Personal Information in accordance with applicable laws. Our Privacy Policy is tailored to meet or exceed the standards set out by PIPEDA and we recognize the confidentiality of your Personal Information. The following are some of the ways information shared with us is used and maintained:

  • When you open an account with us, you provide your consent for the collection, use and disclosure of information required by MMA, such as name, address and other similar data necessary to administer your account(s), process transactions requested by you and provide customer services. Financial, spousal, age and investment related information we collect is required by our regulators and aids our portfolio managers in determining suitability of securities for your account. We must collect identification verification to satisfy the Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act and various securities regulators.
  • Unless as otherwise stated, we do not share your Personal Information with any unaffiliated third parties except with your consent or when permitted or required by law or to protect you and/or MMA against errors and to prevent or detect fraud or other criminal activity.
  • Our employees are required to safeguard the confidentiality of your information and understand the importance of maintaining confidentiality and privacy.
  • You will have access to your Personal Information upon request and you may challenge the accuracy and completeness of the information for amendment purposes as appropriate.
  • In the course of providing services to you, MMA may disclose your Personal Information to third parties, such as custodians or other parties who provide services to MMA. Such parties are contracted service providers with similar provisions to safeguard Personal Information and use it only to provide services on behalf of MMA.
  • We have systems in place which safeguard your Personal Information and prevent unauthorized access. We restrict access to non-public Personal Information about you to those employees who need to access that information to provide products and services to you. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards that comply with federal standards to guard your non-public Personal Information.

Shareholders of Canadian General Investments, Limited (“CGI”):

When you purchase shares of CGI, Personal Information may be collected by CGI’s transfer agent, Computershare Investor Services Inc. (“Computershare”). For information regarding the privacy policy and practices of Computershare, please visit www.computershare.com. Information collected by Computershare is used to fulfill CGI’s continuous disclosure obligations, conduct shareholder meetings and provide information in the declaration of dividends.

Withdrawing Your Consent:

You may withdraw your consent for the collection and use of your Personal Information by contacting MMA’s Privacy Officer at any time. Be advised, however, that should you withdraw your consent we may be unable to provide certain services to you. We will explain the consequences of withdrawing consent, should you choose to do so.
